PREFACE: I’m about to give my opinion on the movie Across the Universe that just came out this weekend (Sept 21). I won’t give anything away, but if you’re like me and you don’t wanna hear anything about it before you see it. GO SEE IT! Then come back and read this. ;)
I’ve been waiting quite a few months now for this movie to come out. I told Jon that I couldn’t wait the entire weekend without seeing it, in fear of hearing people’s opinions on it. I like to go to movies with an open mind and be able to completely critique it on my own. It’s not often a movie can really hit the artistic level that leaves me satisfied. I can watch movies just for pure entertainment and think – that was ok, but I probably wont watch it again – but when a movie makes me wanna see it again, ohhhmy I love it. It’s usually when there’s so much to the movie that I feel I need to see it again to really appreciate it or grasp it fully. Moulin Rouge was like that for me. Like I mentioned in the previous post, there’s an enjoyment in watching someone else’s amazing artistic talent that gives me a deep sense of happiness. It’s probably the same feeling people get when they watch a game of their favorite sports team or something (a feeling I know nothing about). Or like a musician watching their favorite band (I relate a little more to this one). I’ve been listening to the movie soundtrack all day today. It’s a good one. The movie is a musical, which makes it all the better to me. It might even get played as often as the Moulin Rouge soundtrack did back in the day. Funny thing – both movies include the song Love is all you need. What a great concept.
A few years back, I decided I wanted to start making mosaics. I bought all the supplies I needed and I’ve collected about 10 books, but I still have yet to make one piece. It’s interesting though, how looking at other people’s artwork gives me another sort of satisfaction. I love to do my own, but to appreciate something that someone has put their time and effort into, makes you realize where your joy comes from in creativity. Once again, I was doing a google image search for work. I put in “comfy couch” and this photo came up. This awesome outdoor couch looks like fabric. I even thought to myself, I wonder what they do when it rains? But its actually a mosaic. I’d love to someday venture into the mosaic world, along with stained glass.
Tonight, I went to the BB King Blues Festival. I’ll admit, even though I had to sacrifice my Indigo Girls concert, I truly enjoyed it. Some of those songs are so easily recognized yet I’d never have taken the time to appreciate them the way they should be. It would have been just another song on a movie soundtrack to me. Thanks to my blues loving boyfriend, I now have that appreciation. What a privilege it is to experience BB King live in concert. He’s almost 82 yrs old and still going. And gosh, Etta James is hilarious. She’s nearly 70 yrs old and still acts like she’s the sexiest thing alive. Al Green was also very entertaining to see live.

I’m having a lot of fun with this site. I plan to do a lot more to it though, like some photo galleries and a page featuring my artwork. So, check back frequently. I just laughed till I cried at one of Katie’s quotes on her page. She is seriously the funniest kid ever. If you don’t hang out with her much, you definitely should. I’m going to get back to work now and try not to think about the free Indigo Girls concert I’m not going to tomorrow in the city. I am though, going to the BB King Blues Festival tomorrow evening with my boyfriend, brother and sister-in-law. I bought him these tickets back in July for his birthday. Should be fun. So…in answer to my title: Indigo Girls vs. BB King? BB King wins this time…but ONLY because I love my bf so much. On a normal day, Indigo Girls would win.
